PORTFOLIOS

Patrick Kolb

My photographic journey began in 1990, when I got my first large-format view camera. The view camera seemed to open up a whole new world. The pace of taking a photograph, the vision of the world on the ground glass (upside down and backwards) seemed to make sense and is still very exciting. I have used several different cameras, films, developers, printing papers, and techniques, all in search of what I now know as my voice.

Recently I have settled on making platinum/palladium prints as my medium. These platinum prints hold worlds of expression I did not know I had access to. I look forward to using this process to its potential for making the most beautiful prints possible in all the photographic processes. Much has been written about the technical qualities of a platinum print; but for me, the expressive qualities of the print offer the best of everything.

I have traditionally been focused on the landscape with my photography. But now with the tools I have available, I find that everywhere I look, I discover something new, whether close to home or a world away.
