I began with photography around the age of 8 when my father first loaned me his Argus C-3 rangefinder camera. While all the other kids were making pictures using new color films from Kodak, I was out with black and white film discovering patterns and textures.
Since that early age my vision has hinged on mixing abstraction with reality in a way that will compel the viewer to evaluate the image at face value as well as pause to explore deeper meanings. The natural world that surrounds us plays a key role in what I see. In some views I capture the intricate elegance nature alone displays. In other views, when a human-made object is included, I endeavor to capture the grace of the object and its harmony with its environs.
I work primarily with large format view cameras ranging from 4x5 to 11x14. A view camera obliges a methodical working process, and offers the ultimate in composition flexibility. Working in a traditional wet darkroom with wonderfully large negatives, I hand craft prints in silver or platinum/palladium, depending on the 'look' best suiting each image.
